Pilot is a professional multi-touch display designed for music production and creative workflows on macOS. It integrates a capacitive touchscreen with a high-resolution display in a single unit, giving you direct tactile control over your DAW — faders, knobs, timeline, mixer, and more — without reaching for a mouse or controller.

Pilot is available in two sizes: an 18.5-inch model with a native resolution of 1920×1080 (Full HD), and a 27-inch model with a native resolution of 3840×2160 (4K UHD).

Pilot supports up to 10 simultaneous touch contacts at the hardware level. The BUSOIO driver maps fingers for control and gestures such as pinch-to-zoom, two-finger scrolling, and three-finger swipes.

Pilot connects via a single USB cable for touch input, plus a display cable (HDMI or DisplayPort) for the video signal. The touchscreen is automatically recognised by the BUSOIO driver when the display is connected — no manual pairing or configuration required.

Pilot uses a capacitive touch panel. You can use any passive capacitive stylus for basic interaction, but the hardware does not include an active pen digitizer — meaning there is no pressure sensitivity, tilt detection, or hover support.

Yes. The BUSOIO driver installs a display override profile that unlocks HiDPI resolutions for your Pilot. The 18.5-inch supports scaled resolutions from 1024×576 up to 1920×1080 (effective) at 2× backing. You can set the resolution manually in the BUSOIO menu.

BUSOIO requires macOS 13 (Ventura) or later. It runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4 and later).

The BUSOIO driver includes dedicated touch profiles for Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Cubase, Reaper, Studio One, FL Studio, Pro Tools, Bitwig, Reason, GarageBand, Luna, Mixbus, Akai MPC, SSL 360. Each profile maps touch gestures to the DAW's native keyboard shortcuts and control surfaces. A generic default profile is available for any other application.

Absolutely. While Pilot is optimised for music production, the BUSOIO driver works system-wide. There are built-in profiles for browsers (Safari, Chrome). You can use touch for navigation, scrolling, and interaction in any macOS application.

Yes. Pilot functions as a standard external display with touch input. You can use it as your primary or secondary monitor. macOS display arrangement, mirroring, and Spaces all work normally. The BUSOIO driver automatically maps touch coordinates to the correct display.

Download the BUSOIO app and launch it. A guided onboarding wizard walks you through display detection, HiDPI installation, permissions setup, and gesture training. The entire process takes about two minutes. The driver runs as a menu bar application and can optionally launch at login.

The BUSOIO driver requires Accessibility permission (for injecting touch-to-mouse/keyboard events into your DAW) and Input Monitoring permission (for reading USB touch input). Both are requested during onboarding and can be managed in System Settings → Privacy & Security. The HiDPI resolution override requires a one-time administrator password to install a display profile.

A logout and login (not a full restart) is needed after the HiDPI display override is installed for the new resolutions to appear. Touch input works immediately without restarting.

No. UPDD is a well-established, general-purpose touch driver designed to enable touchscreen input across a wide variety of systems and hardware. Many touchscreen devices rely on it, including the Slate Raven. However, UPDD requires multiple background processes and system extension permissions to operate, and comes with licensing and user registration requirements.

BUSOIO is a custom driver developed by Buso Audio specifically for creative workflows on macOS. Rather than providing broad hardware compatibility, BUSOIO is purpose-built and dedicated to Pilot. By developing our own driver, we have far greater control over how touch input behaves — allowing us to fine-tune responsiveness, gesture handling, and application-specific behavior in ways that a general-purpose driver simply can't. And because BUSOIO is built exclusively for Pilot, there's no license to manage, no user registration — it just works.

Pilot supports a comprehensive gesture set: single-tap, double-tap, long-press, drag, two-finger scroll, pinch-to-zoom (horizontal, vertical, and free), two-finger swipe (all directions). The BUSOIO driver is constantly being improved with new gestures and features added weekly.

Press and hold with one finger, then tap with a second finger. This triggers a right-click (context menu) at the position of the first finger — similar interaction you'd expect on any macOS trackpad.

Yes. However you can't control multiple faders at once at this time. We are working on implementing this feature.

Pinch-to-zoom is mapped per DAW profile. In Logic Pro, for example, horizontal pinch controls timeline zoom while vertical pinch controls track height.

The most common causes are: (1) A conflicting third-party touch driver is installed. The BUSOIO driver checks for known conflicts (UPDD/Touch-Base, eGalax, Elo, 3M) at startup and will warn you if one is detected — uninstall the conflicting driver and restart. (2) Try disconnecting and reconnecting the display cable. (3) Check that Accessibility and Input Monitoring permissions are granted in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

Use the display mapping feature in the BUSOIO menu bar. Click the BUSOIO icon → Remap Display. This runs a brief calibration that associates your Pilot's touch input with the correct screen. This is needed when macOS assigns a different display arrangement than expected.

Click the BUSOIO menu bar icon → Diagnostics. This generates a detailed report covering your system info, display configuration, touch controller details, permissions status, conflicting drivers, and more. You can submit it directly or copy it to the clipboard to include in a support request.

The display override profile may not have been installed, or you may need to log out and back in for the changes to take effect. Open the BUSOIO app and check the onboarding status — it will offer to reinstall the HiDPI profile if needed. You can also hold the Option key while clicking 'Scaled' in System Settings → Displays to reveal all available resolutions.
